Event Details

Journey into the kishkes of the old Jewish Lower East Side on the Museum at Eldridge Street’s Hot Cider Walking Tour. The Museum provides a tasty trip back in time to the turn of the last century when the neighborhood was home to the largest Jewish population in the world. Enjoy culinary treats from area merchants; an exploration of local landmarks; and a visit to the historic 1887 Eldridge Street Synagogue, the first great house of worship built in American by immigrants from Eastern Europe.

Meet at the Eldridge Street Synagogue and start with a sampling of the Lower East Side’s best:  bialys from Kossar’s; luscious local rugelach; and hot cider.  Then take to the streets to visit neighborhood landmarks that tell the story of the political, religious, social and cultural life of the Jewish immigrant community:  Seward Park and Library, the Forward newspaper building, Jarmulowsky’s bank, the sites of the famous Garden Cafeteria, the Loews movie house, a Yeshiva, former synagogues, and more.
