Hot Blow Mold Madness Redux
Thu, Mar 30, 2017, 6:00 PM – Thu, May 4, 2017, 9:00 PM EDT
Back by popular demand! Using the hot blow mold technique and various color applications, students will transform everyday objects into their glassy counterparts. Hot blow molds are plaster and silica molds that are warmed up in a kiln. We then blow glass directly into the molds in the hotshop. This technique allows students to remake everyday objects into glass with excellent detail and texture. The first day of class we will discuss the parameters of what we can make and discover each student’s interests regarding scale, material transformation, and possible experiments. Over the course of six weeks, we will inhabit the mold room, the hot shop and the cold shop. Students will create a suite of objects and add valuable skills to their growing technical and conceptual lexicon.
