Host of Ideas, the venture-funding platform launched earlier this year, has just announced the 5 finalists of its inaugural Female Founders Competition! The competition final will take the form of a LIVE PITCH EXERCISE in which the finalists will present to a prestigious panel of judges including Nick Jenkins, Founder of Moonpig, and Julie Hall, lifestyle entrepreneur and Founder of Women Unlimited. A £5000 reward is up for grabs for the winning candidate in a competition which aims to celebrate the best of female commercial prowess. All are most welcome. The five finalist ventures are:
ROCKTAILS(Helen McAvoy and Naomi Kibble): The first range of frozen cocktails on the retail market
HACHI (Rachna Singh): An online network which facilitates personal introductions across the business and social space
MUMLIN (Katy Hymas): A stylish alternative to muslins to protect mothers’ clothes when nursing babies
BREEZE – ELLEXUS (Rosemary Francis): A new system de-bugger which helps to solve complex IT problems in High-Performance Computing
VILLAGE INFRASTRUCTURE (Lucy Symons): A business with a mission to make solar energy affordable for everyone
The event will take place on Monday 19th November at The Hub Westminster (New Zealand House, 80 Haymarket, London, SW1Y 4TE). David Andrews, Chairman of Host of Ideas and the Founder of international business process outsourcer Xchanging, will be heading up a talk on entrepreneurialism before kicking off the 5 pitches of the evening.

In 1999, Nick founded Moonpig.com, an online personalised greeting card retailer, which went on to become a household brand in the UK with over three million customers. Nick sold most of his stake in July 2011 in a VC-backed deal worth £120m, which saw the business merge with Photobox. He has since been associated with a variety of other ventures, including the online gentleman’s outfitter Smart Turnout.
Judith is the founder of her own organisation advising companies and individuals on all aspects of corporate strategy, including fundraising, sales, employment and international growth, primarily in the aviation sector. Other significant work includes a contract for the Department of Trade and Investment where Judith is a Dealmaker. The Global Entrepreneur Programme assists entrepreneurs and early stage technology companies from all over the world to globalise their businesses from a UK hub, introducing these start-ups to key networks. In May 2007 Judith was honoured with the European Business Aviation Award (EBACE) for her outstanding contribution to European business.
Julie is a lifestyle entrepreneur and Founder of Women Unlimited, an online network launched in 2008 which is aimed at fostering female entrepreneurialism and doubling the percentage of female entrepreneurs in the UK over the next 20 years. It is part of Springboard Enterprises, an organisation that is committed to supporting women who want to set up and grow their own businesses.

David founded Xchanging Plc in 1999, a leading international business process outsourcer. He resigned in 2011. In 2010 Xchanging had revenues of £769m, 8000 staff in 11 countries, servicing customers in 43 countries. Previously he was with Accenture for 23 years, rising to managing partner for West Europe. Today he is chairman of Host of Ideas, a web-based solution for bringing great ideas and investors together. He also works with his sons at their farm in Devon.
