Event description

Description

In 1995 Metroplan adopted the new, innovative, citizen-driven long-range transportation plan, METRO 2020. As we approach the year 2020, it’s important to understand the public’s vision for the region, and how much of that vision has been accomplished.

The discussion between former Mayors Jim Dailey, Pat Hayes, and Judge Buddy Villines, will review the way civic leaders grappled with groundbreaking issues in the recent past. The Metro 2020 Plan played a role, directly and indirectly, in historic projects like the Big Dam Bridge, the River Rail streetcar, the River Market District, as well as freeway widenings, and intersection and street improvements across Central Arkansas. The Metro 2020 time period included rising pressures and controversy leading to 30 Crossing and other projects. The free-ranging discussion will welcome questions from the public, with insights into past and future.
