Event description

Description

While Isaac Hayes, Johnnie Taylor, and the Staple Singers remained the top hit-makers for Stax during the early 1970s, some lesser known bands were putting incredible music on label's subsidiary marks like Enterprise, Truth, Gospel Truth, and We Produce. Bands like 24-Carat, Black Nasty, Round Robin Monopoly, and others pushed the envelope towards a harder, funkier sound, while Inez Foxx and Shirley Brown smoothed out the rough edges. Join Memphis' own Hope Clayburn and Soul Scrimmage as they interpret several songs from the late era Stax catalog, and welcome Memphis legend Joyce Cobb to the stage. One of the final artists signed to Stax in 1975, Cobb has had a lengthy teaching and performing career in the Bluff City since Stax closed.
