Hoops to help is a community event to show support Against Domestic Violence

About this Event

On average, 24 people per minute are victims of physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States — more than 12 million women and men over the course of a year. This is a serious problem many face and are scared to speak up about for a variety of reasons. Crown your story along with SPUD Inc., Public School 106 K and Intermediate School 383 k decided to take a stand against domestic violence. We have begun to raise awareness in our classrooms and now want to continue to spread awareness into our community. We want to show those who have experienced Domestic Violence to know that they are not alone.

Hoops to Help: Men against Domestic Violence was a success last year and we have decided to make this an annual event. We have men from all walks of life join us in a friendly basketball event. NYPD officers, Firemen, crossing guards, teachers and the list goes on and on. They all stand together to show support for those who have experienced such an ordeal. During the event there will performances, music, guest speakers, raffles and snacks sold. You will also be able to experience a shopping hall. A number of tables with items you will be able to purchase.

Those who come to see the event will only have to bring toiletries to enter. Suggested toiletries are but not limited to shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, brushes, hair products, nail polish, socks, sanitary pads. All items collected will be donated to a local shelter for domestic violence survivors.
