Event description

Description

Course Goal
Students will be taught basic blacksmithing techniques and will make a hand-forged hook to bring home.

Course Description
I will demonstrate how to make a hook and then help each student in making theirs. Prior to firing up the forge we will review safety rules as well as interesting bits of blacksmithing info and history in the US.

Instructor(s): John Young, Age of Iron, www.backballmassage.com

John was a full-time blacksmith from age 20 to 37, then he switched professions and became a nurse, working at that from age 39 to 62. Now, at age 63, he's back at blacksmithing.
This will be his third year teaching hook making for Bethel University, and he recently taught blacksmithing at Randolph Technical Career Center as well.

Number of Sessions: This course meets once but is offered three times -- on 3/6, 3/13, and 3/20. Please choose one date and register only once.

Materials to Bring: Wear old clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. Bring earphones/hearing protectors, safety glasses, and a NON-dominant-hand work glove if you have any. If you don't, I'll let you use mine.

Restrictions or Requirements: Students must be 16 or older.
