Event description

Description

The Hontoon Runabout returns for 2017! Join Off The Grid Racing on February 19 for a challenging trail run through the wilds of this beautiful island located in the St. Johns River.

The Hontoon Runabout is a 5 and 10 kilometer trail run that will take competitors through pine flatwoods on the higher elevations and oak hammocks, cypress swamps and marshes along the border of the St. Johns River and its tributaries.

Runners might see red-shouldered hawks, white ibis, or limpkins on their journey through the ancient Timucuan habitat. Snails gathered from the shallows were a common food of these people. Over many years, the discarded shells accumulated to form large mounds on the island.

Custom awards for the top 3 male and female age group finishers in the 5 and 10 Kilometer event.

How are the trails designed?
The main running trails are 5 and 10 kilometer loops. The trail will be well marked for daytime running with signs along the course.

Are there water stops and aid stations?
There will be water stops approximately every 2 - 2.5 miles on the course.

Where do we pickup pre-race packets?
Race packets can be picked up from 7:00am-8:30am the day of the race at the Registration Table at the ferry parking lot.

Leave plenty of time to park and cross to the island via ferry.

What Are The Start Times?
5 Kilometer - 9:00 am

10 Kilometer - 9:00 am

Park Directions?
The start/finish is on Hontoon Island. Parking for the ferry to Hontoon Island is off River Ridge Road. Google Map Location.
