Description

Add Edible Mushrooms to your Garden

Join us in celebration of the exciting world of Mushrooms! This is an interactive workshop where we get hands-on with mushrooms we learn how easy it is to grow several common edible mushrooms at home. Attendees will be led through the workshop in a lighthearted manner using basic materials to start at-home cultivation projects. Everyone will get to take home a live culture (implanted in a 2.5' long, 5" diameter oak log) to grow to maturity and naturalize in your own garden. We will introduce you to simple methods to grow 3 different edible mushrooms that are known to be the easiest for beginners to try out. Materials will be provided at the workshop.

Theresa Halula is an experienced home mushroom cultivator and has established edible mushrooms in many gardens. She teaches Mushroom Cultivation and Permaculture Design at Merritt College in Oakland, CA. As a Permaculture Garden Designer, she incorporates mushrooms into Food Forest Projects to support soil fertility by transforming organic matter into a form useful to annual and perennial fruits and vegetables. She has been teaching workshops and leading forays in the Bay Area since 2005 and is an active advocate for fungi in the environment. She is a member of the Bay Area Mycological Society and the Mycological Society of San Francisco.
