Description

Be sure to come to our Free Introductory Class on Sept. 8th!

* Beginner Piano/Keyboard Class for children ages 6 - 16 *

Eight 1-hour classes on Fridays at 3:15pm beginning on September 8 and ending on November 3. Additional classes may be offered to finish the book.

This class is probably best for Homeschoolers due to the early time, but everyone is welcome. Because of the wide age group, the teacher will have one or two assistants to help with the younger students. See the FAQ's below for more info.

Instructor: Andrey Lubimtsev

This is hands-on learning from the start as everyone has their own keyboard to use in class. The cost of the book (Bastien Piano Method) is included in the price, so all students will get their own copy to take home. By the end of the 8-week session, participants will have a basic understanding of the keyboard and basic music theory. Young students will be able to play simple melodies one hand at a time; older children will be able to play a simple melody with basic accompaniment.

Some of the topics covered include:
· Music Theory
· Notation
· Melody/Chords
· Hand Position
· Posture

Group classes for beginners offer a number of advantages over starting with private lessons. Besides the cost savings, the group environment offers more time to learn with an instructor. Playing along with others is also a benefit to learning, and it’s more fun! Plus, these classes have been organized as a fundraiser for the new nonprofit music school, the Keystone Musical Arts Center, so you can feel extra good about learning how to play piano!

100% of the proceeds will benefit the Keystone Musical Arts Center!

FAQs

Is there a discount for additional family members?

Yes! Additional family members (siblings, parent/child) are half price.

Can younger or older students participate?

Maybe. Younger (age 5) may be able to take the class but a brief evaluation is needed first. Please contact us for more information about this. Older students, even adults, may take the class but those in their later teens and above tend to be uncomfortable in a class with younger children. Contact us if you would like to discuss this.

Do I need to have a piano at home?

You will need access to a piano or at least an inexpensive keyboard so that you can practice between classes. Keyboards will be provided during the classes, so the only thing you will need to bring with you each week is the book.

If you don't have access to a piano or keyboard but would still like to take the class, contact us to see what options might be available.

I'm interested but the time doesn't work for me, or I’m in a different age group.

Please let us know! We will have new classes starting after this one and the details for these will be determined in part by the interest shown ahead of time. We'd like to put together an adult class sometime soon!

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

We'd love to hear from you! Direct emails to info@KeystoneMusicalArtsCenter.org or call us at 717-737-KMAC (5622).
