Event description

Description

Homeschool Adventure Days begin promptly at 10:00am and include all-day Museum admission, a 60 minute hands-on education program, and scavenger hunts! Students will be divided by grade-level:

Grades K-5 - Tale of the Tooth

10:00am-11:00am

Tale of the Tooth begins with the students listening to a story about different types of animals and how they use their teeth. Students will then engage in a hands-on activity to discover tooth adaptations that allow animals to survive in a variety of ecosystems. Through the hands-on engagement of skull specimens, your students will study the teeth and eye placement of herbivores, carnivores and omnivores.

Grades 6-12 - Keys to Identification

11:30am-12:30pm

Students will work in teams to locate and measure various skull features while following dichotomous keys. Using thier dichotomous keys, students will identify various types of animals based off of measurement conversions and osteological observations. Emphasis will be placed on the student's ability to verbally communicate the identification process and everyone will share their findings at the conclusion of the class.

At this Homeschool Adventure Day, we will be debuting a NEW scavenger hunt! Students will need to navigate their way through exhibits to find skeletons and the answers to AMAZING animal facts.

*Children under 3 do not require a ticket
