Homebuyer Education is designed to increase knowledge and build new skills in the area of homeownership. NeighborWorks® America's mission is to create opportunities for people to live in affordable homes, improve their lives and strengthen their communities. Subjects covered during this course will include: 

                     Homeownership readiness and affordability 
                     Money and credit management 
                     Types of properties and financing available 
                     Purchase, mortgage, and closing processes 
                     Home maintenance and financial management after home purchase  

 The course focuses not only on purchasing the home, but also addresses issues about keeping the home. The Royal Palm Coast REALTOR® Association Housing Foundation is providing this event in conjunction with the Home Ownership Resource Center of Lee County. 

A textbook "Realizing The American Dream" by NeighborWorks®, handouts, lunch and refreshments are provided for all attendees. 

Attendees who complete the 8 hour course will have satisfied the educational requirements for down payment assistance, Florida Housing Finance Corporation and the NSP Program. 

The class is offered on the 4th Saturday of each month at the Royal Palm Coast REALTOR® Association Education Center.

 ABOUT The Home Ownership Resource Center

(HORC) is a non-profit agency dedicated to assisting homeowners and homebuyers in

acquiring and sustaining home ownership.  We provide home ownership opportunities, homebuyer education, budget and credit counseling and foreclosure prevention and intervention for people in need throughout Southwest Florida.

We provide access to reasonable credit accommodations that address a flexible underwriting criteria, nontraditional forms of collateral, low equity positions and minimal closing costs without jeopardizing HORC’s expectation of full repayment.

In the Mid 1980s the "Affordable Housing Task Force" was made up of private citizens who were looking into ways of developing additional housing that could be made affordable for purchase by lower income families. This group was assigned the task of looking into ways that money being made available through the federal and state governments could be utilized to construct affordable housing in neighborhoods targeted for redevelopment. 

The rules governing the use of these funds required that the monies be funneled through a community based non-profit organization. Thus, at the recommendation of the Affordable Housing Task Force, six community leaders with a passion for affordable housing decided to form the HDC, which was incorporated in August, 1991.
