A free seminar designed to educate prospective homebuyers about the entire buying process. The HomeBuyer Camp program has been tested and revised over the years to include the most up-to-date, relevant information for today’s homebuyer. Continuously held at DePaul University in Chicago for their Financial Fitness Center members, the HomeBuyer Camp is now coming to HomeScout Realty’s River North office!
Each camp is maxed out at ten people to ensure an intimate setting where you will feel comfortable and get your questions answered. Matthew Ewald, mortgage consultant with 1st Advantage Mortgage, and Peter Krzyzanowski, real estate consultant with HomeScout Realty, provide you with expert knowledge from industry professionals.
The camp starts with a discussion of the financial aspects of buying your own home and then moves into what you need to know about working with a Realtor™ and things to consider when shopping for a home. We start every camp by asking our attendees, “What would you need to learn to call this seminar a success?”
Some topics that we make sure to cover are:
- Help answering the question, “Am I ready to buy a home?”
- State of the Chicago real estate market
- Everything you need to know to qualify for a mortgage
- What lenders are looking for when approving you for a home loan
- Information on how to buy a home with zero down payment
- How to get pre-approved to buy a home that you can afford
- What it takes from start to finish to complete the purchase
Our goal is to provide potential buyers with the knowledge and tools to confidently navigate the home-buying process.

Peter Krzyzanowski is a Broker Associate with HomeScout Realty who works with both buyers and renters on finding their new home in Chicago. Pete's goal is to develop long standing advisory relationships with his clients so they feel comfortable leaning on him as a resource for anything Chicago or real estate related. His background as a financial advisor is key to helping his clients understand the financial concerns associated with the renting versus buying decision.
Born and raised in the Western suburbs and living in Chicago since 1998, Pete has become an expert in Chicago and all it has to offer with its widely varying neighborhoods. Owning and managing an investment property in Chicago since 2004, Pete has personal experience on every side of a real estate transaction and uses that to identify with his clients.
Pete’s experience has led him to develop a process that allows his clients to find their home in the most efficient way possible. The step-by-step approach includes needs analysis, market education, and online showings. These steps ensure that his clients are educated, prepared, and the time allocated to viewing properties is only spent on places that have a real chance of being his clients’ new home.
In his spare time Pete enjoys playing softball (both Chicago’s 16” version and the rest of the country’s 12” version), disc-golf, sailing on Lake Michigan and tailgating for Bears’ games.
