Event description

Description

Free and open to the public, this August the Al Larvick Conservation Fund (ALCF), the State Historical Society of North Dakota, Barnes County Historical Society and the North Dakota State University Archives will co-sponsor three events, in partnership with local experts and historians, for a celebration of home movies. The series is in its third year.

Events showcase a selection of home movies along with presenters. This year’s “Home Movies on the Road” focuses on the tradition of recording our travel experiences, particularly that of road trips. Speakers will explore circumstances that led to a rise in driving-based vacations in America and the image recording technology that developed during this period-of-time. Clips from decade’s past will be screened accompanied by live narrators telling stories behind the films and videos, both familiar and unique. Audiences are encouraged to share their road trip memories along the way.

“Home Movies on the Road” locations and times are as follows:

Aug. 21st from 7 to 8 p.m. at the North Dakota Heritage center, Bismarck.

Aug. 22nd from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Barnes County Historical Society Museum, Valley City.

Aug. 23rd from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Fargo Public Library, downtown Fargo (3rd St N location).

Doors open at 6:30p for anyone interested in arriving early to inquire about ALCF’s home movie grants or has questions about caring for their home movie collections.

The Al Larvick North Dakota Grant offers one or more applicants up to $5000 in goods and services for the conservation and digital capture of analog (pre-digital age) home movie and amateur cinema collections. This year’s grant opens August 1st and closes October 1st, 2017.

Presenters include:
