This 2-day, distinctive, face-to-face interactive program with instruction and hands-on training is prepared for RNs with little or no experience in home infusion therapy and advanced central vascular catheters (CVC) procedures.
1st day, didactic session explains legal implications of infusion therapy, coordination with providers, start of care, patient teaching criteria, overview of ambulatory infusion pumps, vascular access device selection criteria, managing patients with ant-infective therapies, TPN, IV pain management, IV steroids, inotropic medications, Remicade®, IV and SQ immunoglobulins, and post-chemotherapy and cytotoxic infusions.
2nd day, session teaches clinicians to care for, prevent and manage complications of midline PICC and ALL central vascular access devices (CVADs). Hands-on training include CVAD dressing change, flushing, blood specimen collection, accessing and de-accessing implanted ports, de-clotting CVADs with Cathflo®, removal of PICC and non-tunneled catheters.
