Event description

Description

Our Christmas exhibit will pay tribute to our past, looking at traditions and customs of the different ethnic groups of people in Fayette County. We will open this exhibit with our candle light dinner on November 15th at 5:30. Join us as we step back in time to an era when people traveled by wagons and coaches pulled by horses along the National Road. Enter the Abel Colley Tavern, filled with the smells of slow roasted meats and fresh breads and be a part of history. Join us for a family style dinner by candle light made up of tasty food, warmth, music, and friends.

On Friday and Saturday, November 15 and 16 the museum will open for tours at 5:30 PM and opening dinner fare is served at 6:30 We will offer our finest ale {Ginger} and ciders served with a cheese and cured meat board with breads and relish on our side board.

Our Main Fare is inspired by the customs and foods of 19th century America. It begins with The Abel Colley Tavern “Elizabeth Malone” Signature Stew. A hearty mixture of slow roasted beef, root vegetables, beans, peas, and corn in a rich creamy gravy. The main plate will be Hunter’s Chicken, also known as Chicken Chasseur. This is a classic French chicken recipe, which will be cooked with mushrooms and tomatoes and was first recorded in America in 1805. At the time of inception the hunters would bring game meat home and cook with the ingredients collected in the woodlands to create a rustic and comforting dish. It will be served with a starch and a basket of breads with butter, apple butter and jams.

Our Sweet board for desert will offer our finest cakes, custard, bread pudding and a Yule Log. All served with coffee and tea.

Bring family and friends for a colonial Christmas dinner to remember. Come dressed as a lady or gentleman of old {not mandatory}. or bring your musical instrument and lead the visitors in song just like the days of old. We will have story tellers and Christmas music for our festive evening. Adult tickets are $24.00 and tickets for children under 13 are $12.00. Reserve early our room limited. Please list the names of people in your party, so we keep all members in your party together.

The dinner is BYOB, but the society cannot uncork any bottles.

Should you have any allergies, please let us know. In order to help us maintain a historic ambiance, please refrain from the use of cellular phones and no smoking. Thank you in advance. We want to provide each guest with an authentic and historical dining experience.
