Monsignor Charles Pope & Description of His Talk

Msgr. Charles Pope is the pastor of Holy Comforter-St. Cyprian, a vibrant parish community in Washington, D.C. A native of Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, his interest in the priesthood stemmed from his experience as a church musician. He attended Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary and was ordained in 1989. A pastor since 2000, he has led Bible studies in the U.S. Congress and at the White House in past years. Monsignor Pope is a nationally recognized speaker and writer. He is a regular guest on Monday mornings on EWTN's Morning Glory Radio Show. His writing is often featured in the National Catholic Register, Our Sunday Visitor, New Advent, Amazing Catechists, and is the primary author for the Archdiocese of Washington’s blog, "Community in Mission". Visit www.msgrpope.com to learn more about his life, read his written works, or listen to his talks.

His talk, "When the 'I do' becomes 'You'd Better,"  will be a humorous yet pratical presentation about how to negotiate artfully marital expectations, decision making, and conflict with grace. It will draw upon his many years of experience as a pastor helping married couples and Biblical insights about marriage. He also encourages questions for a robust discussion during a Q & A session that will follow the talk. Come learn how to be more united in your marriage and follow more closely God's wonderful plans for your beautiful marriage!

Saint John Paul II National Shrine

The Saint John Paul II National Shrine is a major pastoral initiative of the Knights of Columbus, a lay Catholic fraternal organization with approximately two million members around the world. Faithful to continuing the mission and legacy of Pope John Paul II, in 2011 the Knights established a shrine to him in the nation’s capital. After five years of construction and the canonization of its patron, the Saint John Paul II National Shrine attracts tens of thousands of pilgrims annually. It is a place of worship, religious formation, and cultural renewal. A major permanent exhibit highlights significant events in the life of John Paul II and his momentous influence as the spiritual father of one billion Catholics and as a world leader. The shrine also hosts talks, days of reflection, special devotions, and other events to feed the minds and souls of its visitors. It is the Knights’ hope that this initiative will serve the life of the Church in the United States and will thus bear abundant fruit for the universal Church and for the world.
