Event description

Description

This year is the third annual celebration of International Holocaust Survivors Night. The official menorah lighting ceremony at the Western Wall (Kotel) in Israel will again be dedicated to Holocaust survivors worldwide in honor of their re-emergence from darkness into light. Chief Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, Rabbi of the Western Wall and the Holy Sites, will recite the Chanukah prayers and light candles with Holocaust survivors and their families, as well as representatives from social services agencies and other organizations that assist survivors.

To elevate this honor, the Claims Conference will recognize Holocaust survivors with additional menorah lighting ceremonies in New York City, Berlin, Moscow, Paris and London. The New York event is being held in partnership with the Museum of Jewish Heritage -- A Living Memorial to the Holocaust.

These events serve as global reminders of those who survived the atrocities of the Holocaust and live their lives with the weight of those memories.

In New York City, the menorah will be lit and the holiday shared with friends, family and children to ensure the next generation carries on the mission to remember.
