Holistic Moms hosts Dr. Susan Rubin Creating a More Sustainable Suburbia
Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM (EST)
"Holistic" means looking at the big picture. Personal health and planetary health are really the same thing. How can we shift toward more sustainable living within our homes and communities? Dr. Susan Rubin, an eco-gastronomically-focused health professional and mother of three will share her experiences with diverse topics including
- School food advocacy-- empowering both children and their teachers to eat better
- Climate change and preparing for weather events, building resilience
- Building local food systems, including community gardens and edible landscaping
- Backyard chickens, composting, and its connection to nutrient dense food
Susan says, “After 10+ years as a school food activist, I am more passionate than ever about the big picture: our food system and our environment. I've been growing food and teaching veggie gardening and composting to schools, summer camps and child care centers for the past 5 years. I look forward to inspiring and empowering others to do the same at home and in their community. I’ll show you how to ‘occupy the food supply." Creating a healthier environment for your family is easy and fun.”
No registration required. This event is free and all are welcome. However, if you do register, Eventbrite will send you reminders the week before and the day of the event.
