A quarter auction is a cross between an auction, bingo and a party! It is a fun way to support local businesses, support a local charity and possibly win an item valued at $25 for only 25 cents. Food and drinks provided. Only $10 a seat! Your $10 ticket covers one bidding paddle, one raffle ticket and complimentary food and drinks. Read more to see how it works:
* PADDLES: Each bidding 'paddle' has a number written on it - the paddle is then used to hold up in the air when you place your bid - this is where the 'auction' part comes into play. One paddle is free and included in the seat cost. This paddle allows you to bid on each item up for auction. If you feel that you may want to bid more than a quarter then you can purchase up to three additional paddles at $2 a piece or all three for $5. This allows you to bid up to a dollar on each item up for auction. This increases your odds of winning that great item valued at $25!
* CHIPS: The chips or bingo balls have a number put on them that correspond with each paddle. Once you buy your paddle(s) - the corresponding numbered chip(s) or bingo ball(s) is (are) placed in a container with everyone else's. The auctioneer will stir them up (or in the case of bingo balls, roll them around in the basket) and then pull from there to match the winning paddle number that is held up.
* BID TIME: Okay - The auctioneer is describing the first item - you would really like to win it so, you put your quarter(s) into the container - just like everyone else does! You hold your numbered paddle(s) way up high (because you really want that item)! Now, the auctioneer stirs the chips & reaches in - pulls out a number and reads it to the crowd - (This is the BINGO part.)
Now if it's your number - you WIN the item and you've only paid from 1 to 4 quarters for it!
So for a chance to win those items be sure and bring a few rolls of quarters to bid on them. Also, bring some cash if you plan to participate in the 50/50 raffle (for your chance to win half of all the money collected with this raffle) or to by raffle tickets for the other raffle items. Raffle tickets are $2.00 each, 3 tickets for $5.00, 8 tickets for $10.00, or 15 tickets for $15.00.
