About this Event

Hosted by Hastings Architecture

With new development taking place in Nashville at an unprecedented pace, holding onto culture and history is challenging and evermore important. Join Historian David Ewing and Hastings Architecture on a walking tour of the Capital District. Learn about the evolution of this neighborhood through building tours and anecdotes from people who currently work and live in Nashville’s Central Business District. The tour will begin and culminate at Hastings Architecture inside the former Main Public Library. One of the city’s most recent adaptive reuse projects, this prominent New-Formalist landmark was completed in 1965 and served as Nashville’s Main Public Library for more than 35 years before its conversion into creative office space.

The tour will be hosted by:

David Ewing, a ninth generation Nashvillian and an award-winning historian who focuses on local Nashville history. David has previously served on the Metro Historical Commission, Metro Historic Zoning Commission and Metro Board of Zoning Appeals. He is a LEED AP B+C and lives and works in Downtown Nashville.

Dave Powell, a Principal of Hastings Architecture, has been designing award winning architecture since 1991. Calling on his past life as a musician, Dave’s work shares vocabularies and aesthetics across art forms – always designed from a perspective of sincere story telling. Dave’s portfolio includes notable projects such as The Ryman Auditorium Renovation and Expansion, Bellevue Library, Mask House, and The Bridge Building. His diverse body of work has been recognized by AIA Gulf States, AIA Tennessee, Architect Magazine, Architectural Record, Contract Magazine, and the Urban Land Institute.

Paid parking is available in a surface lot on Church Street between Polk Avenue and Rosa L. Parks Avenue.
