Event description
In a moment when there is so much to care about and so much care needed, where can we gather for care?

About this event

Holding Breath is a facilitated online experience where care can be shared, collected, and held with others. Enter an online room, locate your breath in relation to others, find a collective rhythm, express a response, and gather your breath yet again. Curiosity and a generous spirit are all that’s needed. Holding Breath will unfold over a 24-hour period starting at 6:15 p.m. EST on Tuesday, November 3, and ending at 5:45 p.m. EST November 4, New York City. Choose a 15-minute block of time (or several!) and join us for a collective acknowledgement of our very human desire to care for ourselves and each other. After registering, you can simply show up to as many sessions as you'd like.

The event is produced and presented by an interdisciplinary group of NYU Faculty: Mauricio Salgado (Department of Drama, Tisch), Mary Bitel (Open Arts and Collaborative Arts, Tisch), Nisha Sajnani (Program in Drama Therapy, Steinhardt), Joe Salvatore (Program in Educational Theatre, Steinhardt), and Kristin Horton (Gallatin School of Individualized Study) and the following NYU faculty, students and alumni: Alex Ates, Andy McMurray, Bella Florence, Blayne Welsh, Christian Alexander Corpening, Daniel Smith, Doug Paulson, Durell Cooper, Elena Offerman, Gwendolyn Alker, Kamal Sehrawy, Macarena Ramos, Mariasofia Hernandez, Molly Advani, Shannon Barnes, Sophie Cannata Bowman, Sumayya Bisseret Martinez, Tammie Swopes, Yannick Trapman O’Brien, Zoey Burger. The project is being managed by Paige Carter.

Holding Breath is free and open to everyone. Please get in touch with us at holdingbreathnyu@gmail.com if you have any questions.
