About this Event

Writer Steve Ginsburg (a wire guy) and photographer Mark Goldman (a shooter) will regale us with anecdotes about covering the world of sports, from the pressures of being a “wire guy” – the journalists who write the stories that get fed to thousands of newspapers and broadcasters through the world – to the challenge of “shooters” – those who take the jaw-dropping images during the most crucial moments of a big game. This program, which is being held in conjunction with Actions and Reactions: Sports Photography by Mark Goldman, examines the intense pressure of writing a compelling account of the biggest events in sports – the Super Bowl, the Olympics, the World Series – and capturing the images that provide the visual documentation. As sports journalists who have covered nearly every acclaimed athlete in recent history, they will also share some amusing behind-the-scenes stories and discuss the difference between the players’ public persona and their locker room temperament.

Steven Ginsburg was the North American Sports Editor for Reuters for thirty years. Mark Goldman has been a sports photographer for over thirty-five years. His photos have appeared in every major sports publication including covers o of the venerable magazine Sports Illustrated. Mark and Steve graduated from the same class at Northwood High School.
