Bus Tour of Area’s Historic Churches
The April 2023 tour will visit historic buildings in Greene, Taliaferro, Warren, McDuffie and Hancock Counties. Five churches and one historic home will be featured on this bus tour:
- Church of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary
- Hickory Hill, historic house museum
- Rock Mill Methodist
- Jewell Baptist
- Penfield Baptist
- Millrock Baptist
Bus stops will be made at each location and narrators will be on hand to share the church’s history.
Lunch is included at one of the historic sites, and planned programs/tours at each stop.
The bus tour begins and ends at the Home Depot parking lot at 2490 Meadow Crest Road, Greensboro, Ga. Plans call for the bus to leave around 9:00 a.m. and return around 5:00 p.m. To accommodate tour participants, the bus will stop at Thomson’s Hampton Inn at 1702 Washington Rd, Thomson, GA 30824 at 7:30 a.m. for loading and depart at 8:00 a.m. enroute to Greensboro’s Home Depot. Those boarding in Thomson will return there around 5:00 pm.
Seats are limited. This is the fifth year of area Pews & Pulpits bus tours, which was awarded the Tourism Champion Award for Partnership at the 2019 Georgia Governor’s Tourism Conference.
The “Pews & Pulpits Ramble’’ is sponsored by a partnership of tourism organizations in all five counties. Proceeds from the bus tour will be used to fund solar-powered audio boxes at the area’s historic sites. The audio boxes will provide history narratives 24-7 for visiting tourists.
