The African American Museum in Fair Park, Dallas is pleased to present the Historic African American Film Series 2018. The auditorium will screen selections from the Tyler, Texas Black Film Collection followed by a live performance to bring the films to life.

The original film reels are housed in the G. William Jones Film and Video Collection in the Hamon Arts Library at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX. This moving picture archive demonstrates the talent of African American producers, directors, actors, and set crew from the late 1930s to the 1950s. These productions were viewed in segregated theatres by Black audiences for entertainment with feature films accompanied by shorts and newsreels. For further interest, SMU also houses the Black Film Material Collection in the DeGoyler Library.
