Description

Hiring and Getting Hired in Independent Film Productions

Know your rights! Learn the ins and outs of hiring independent contractors from both sides of the table– from an employer's responsibilities to a contractor's rights. This discussion will feature a panel of experts who will address the legalities of each step of the employment process and how to handle discrimination, harassment and conflict in hiring. There will also be a look into what you need to know about New York’s “Freelance Isn’t Free Act.”

Doors open at 7:00PM
Discussion begins promptly at 7:30PM

Following the discussion, we'll move to a local bar for a round of drinks graciously sponsored by WithumSmith+Brown.

About the panelists:

Nikita Bhargava is an entertainment and employment attorney at Reavis Page Jump LLP. Niki's practice focuses on legal issues that arise in the fields of television, film and digital media by providing production legal counsel, as well as handling workplace discrimination claims and a wide variety of corporate matters.

Joshua Horowitz (CPA, MBA) is a tax manager at WithumSmith+Brown, leading the theatre, entertainment and arts niche.

Danielle Moss is a labor and employment senior associate at Proskauer Rose. She regularly litigates, investigates, and counsels clients on discrimination and harassment matters.

This seminar is co-hosted by the Brooklyn Film Festival Exchange and Video Consortium.
