About this event
Turn personal stories into lyrically complex hip-hop monologues, scenes, or full-length plays. Study the masters of hip-hop and theatre, then create your own style. This will be a series of 3 workshop sessions culminating in a presentation of the created material to an audience.
Inspired by works like Hamilton and In the Heights, students will create their own hip-hop theatre from the raw material of their own lives, and the raw power of their own bodies. Through bodily and verbal exploration of beats and rappers’ rhythms, wordplay and flows, students will learn techniques of rhythmic storytelling. Using improvised and recorded beats, students will turn personal stories into lyrically complex hip-hop monologues and scenes. Led by award-winning hip-hop theatre maker Aaron Jafferis and director Raphael Massie.
