Description

Hip-Hop HEALS is a two-day training on:

Wed, July 24 thru Thurs, July 25, 8:30 AM to 3 PM both days

Hip-Hop HEALS is a trauma-informed prevention and intervention model for at-risk youth. It incorporates the use of selected and strategic segments of modern rap music, hip-hop culture, and popular youth media as a means of enhancing the appeal and impact to youth who express strong interests in rap genre. Dr. Jaleel Abdul-Adil, from the Urban Youth Trauma Center, University of Illinois at Chicago, is a co-creator of Hip-Hop HEALS, as well as other interventions for at-risk youth. His training will focus mainly on the prevention side of the model and can be utilized by any community staff member who works with youth and has at least a basic knowledge of rap and hip-hop. After attending the workshop, you will have an understanding of Hip-Hop HEALS group structure, resources (including music to use during groups), and group topics, including self-identity, complex trauma exposure, gang involvement, disruptive behavioral challenges, and trauma indicators. For those interested, follow-up support calls will be offered to help with group implementation.

*Please choose either date when registering- but this is a two-day training.

This event is funded by a Toledo Children's Hospital SAMHSA Grant #SM063115.
