Event Details

Bike safety clinic, rides of 2, 5 and 10 miles, goodies and more! T-shirts and snacks for all participants! Choctaw Nation Trail of Tears Bike Team members will lead each ride.  Children must provide their own bicycles and helmets are mandatory! The rides begin and end at the Choctaw Nation Wellness Center.

Medals will be awarded for each bike ride.  Any age rider may participate in any of the rides, however, medals are limited to age 8 and under for the 2 mile ride, 11 and under for the 5 mile ride, and any age for the 10 mile ride. 

Youth riders must be under 15.  Riders over 16 must be registered with a youth rider.

Onsite registration will begin at 7:00 AM, with the bike clinic beginning at 7:30.  The 2 mile bike race/rides will begin at 8:30, with start times for the other two rides staggered to avoid congestion on the route.

There are no refunds.

Waiver of Liability:  I, myself or the parent/ legal guardian of the minor mentioned in this registration form, give my full permission for my me/my child to participate in the Choctaw Nation TOT Youth Bike Ride.  I understand and acknowledge that participation in physical activity may cause health risk or injury to me/my child and the Choctaw Nation TOT Team is not liable for accidents. I know that this bicycle event is being held on public roadways with traffic  that may be hazardous.  I assume the risk and responsibility for the safety of  me/my child while  riding in this event. I hearby waive all claims that I may have against Choctaw  Nation, CN TOT Bike Team or any other person or entities involved in organizing, conducting or supporting this event for any injury or loss me/my child might suffer including liability for death, disability, injury or property damage, even if  injury or loss was caused by the negligence of  those parties.  I attest that I am/my child is physcially fit and prepared for this event, agree to wear a helmet and to receive any recommended medical treatment.  I grant full permission for the organizers  to use video or photographs  of  me/my child in the Biskinik, Choctaw Nation Public Relations  or any other papers or promotional posters.  I further give my consent for the Choctaw  Nation TOT Team to provide medical attention to me/my child in the event of  an emergency situation.  If, my child is under 0 years of age, I understand I am required to be present at their time of physical activity.

Choctaw Nation Trail of Tears Bike Team

We want people to know we’re here. And what a testimony that is to the character and strength of the Choctaw people.

Despite centuries of forced removal, aggressive brutality, fractured families, economic hardships, intentional betrayals, and destructive deceit, this tribe remains a vibrant and healthy community. Today, the Choctaws are the third largest federally-recognized tribe in the United States.

The long journey began in 1831, spread over three main trips, all disastrous for the Choctaw Removal from Mississippi to Indian Territory (present day Oklahoma). One Choctaw chief is noted for saying to a reporter, “ This has been a trail of tears and death.  During the Trail of Tears – which primarily took place over three years – an estimated two thousand of the twenty thousand Choctaws perished from disease, hunger, cold, and drowning.
