Event description

Description

Hilma af Klint began creating radically abstract paintings in 1906. Af Klint's paintings were light-years ahead of their time: bold, colorful, and untethered from any recognizable references to the physical world. During her working years Hilma became deeply embedded within a spiritual practice that heavily influenced and informed her art.

Through her Spiritualism, occultist beliefs, and séance practices, Hilma's work began to encompass otherworldly qualities.

Af Klint’s first major group of work, The Paintings for the Temple, grew directly out of those belief systems. Produced between 1906 and 1915, the paintings were generated in part through af Klint’s spiritualist practice as a medium and reflect an effort to articulate mystical views of reality.

Far ahead of her time, Hilma requested her work not be shown for at least 20 years to the public. Over eighty years later, her work emerges capturing the magic, creativity, and essence of the human and nonhuman realms.

This workshop, led by Atlanta artist and painter Meagan Jain, will recognize the innovative abstract art of Hilma af Klint. Using inspiration from her Paintings for the Temple, we will paint a step-by-step painting guided and instructed by Meagan. From beginner to advanced painters alike, this workshop will meet each participant where they are in their art journey.

In this workshop, you will paint on a 24inx18in canvas you take home! We will also have hors d'oeuvres and fine wine.
