Description

September 29th come to CrossFIt Morgantown to test your grip strength in the Hillbilly Hand Wars MAS and Grip Challenge. This will be an Armlifting USA and MAS Wrestling USA sanctioned event. Entry fee for the Armlifting portion will be $25, entry fee for the MAS portion will be $25. Competitors are encouraged to enter both events for a $40 entry fee. Register at

Weigh-ins will be held Sunday morning at 11 AM. Rules briefing will be at 11:30 AM. MAS will begin at 12 PM followed by Armlifting.

Armlifting competitors must pay for Armlifting USA membership (https://armliftingusa.com/membership). MAS open competitors must be pay for MAS Wrestling USA membership (http://maswrestlingusa.com/membership-form), MAS novice competitors will compete in an unsanctioned event and need not pay MAS Wrestling USA membership.

NOVICE MEN: Under 105 kg, Over 105 kg **Novice division is unsanctioned and you need not pay the MAS Wrestling USA Membership**

NOVICE WOMEN: Under 75kg, Over 75 kg **Novice division is unsanctioned and you need not pay the MAS Wrestling USA Membership**

OPEN MEN’s weight categories are – 70 kg, 80kg, 90kg, 105kg, 125kg, and 125kg+

OPEN WOMEN’s weight categories are –55kg, 65kg, 75kg, 85kg and 85kg+.

Weight/age categories with 2 or less athletes merged with next higher weight category.

Weight categories with 3-5 athletes conducted in Round Robin format; and weight categories with 6 or more athletes conducted in a Double Elimination format. Each match is best two of three bouts.

AWARDS: 1st – 3rd in each weight category

Armlifting/Grip

Entry Fee is $25. For armlifting, results if applicable, will be placed on the national leaderboard. Contestants must be Armlifting USA members. Order of each event will run women then men from LW to HW.

We are conducting this event in accordance with the Official Ironmind Rules. Please read this document carefully.

Events contested:

1) Ironmind Apollon's Axle Double Overhand Deadlift

The athletes will each attempt to deadlift the IronMind Apollon’s Axle™ . Last Man Standing rules apply. Time starts when the implement is loaded, and athletes have 60 seconds to commence the lift, and may attempt the lift multiple times within the 60 second time limit. No grip aids other than chalk allowed. Athletes must grip axle with knuckles on both facing away from body (double overhand grip). Thumb less or locked thumb grip not allowed. Otherwise, standard power lifting rules (including Sumo style) apply; resting Axle on the thighs or any downward movement will NOT be allowed. Athletes must await referee’s down signal before returning the Axle back to the platform all the while maintaining the grip/contact with Axle.

2) Ironmind Rolling Thunder Single Arm Deadlift

The athletes will each attempt to deadlift with one hand the Ironmind Rolling Thunder® . Last Man Standing rules apply. Time starts when the implement is loaded, and athletes have 60 seconds to commence the lift, and may attempt the lift multiple times within the 60 second time limit. No grip aids other than chalk allowed. Athlete can use either hand and must grip the center of each handle. Thumb less or locked thumb grip not allowed. Athletes must await referee’s down signal before returning the implements back to the platform all the while maintaining the grip/contact with implements. Highest weight lifted wins.

3) Silver Bullet

  • All eleven Ironmind Captains of Crush grippers will be available to choose from.

  • Athlete will have 30 seconds to get the Silver Bullet set and achieve a score. Time will start once athlete begins making a bonafide attempt to set the gripper.

  • Once the Silver Bullet is in place and the setting hand is removed, the judge will instruct the timekeeper to start the time.

  • Timekeeper will call out time every 5 seconds

  • Athlete can start with whatever gripper they want, but if they cannot get the gripper set they have the option of going down to a different gripper if they want, but all this has to happen within the 30 second time limit.

  • Any time at a heavier gripper beats any time at a lighter gripper.

4) Ironmind Hub

The athletes will each attempt to deadlift with one hand the Ironmind Hub. Last man standing rules apply. The lifter starts the lift with all 5 fingertips of the lifting hand touching the plate at the base of the Hub. It is permissible that the fingers rotate somewhat from this

position during the course of the lift, but holding the Hub as if grabbing a doorknob is not allowed. The Hub must remain approximately parallel to the ground. Time starts when the implement is loaded, and athletes have 60 seconds to commence the lift, and may attempt the lift multiple times within the 60 second time limit. No grip aids other than chalk.

5) Optional Crushed to Dust Challenge
