Mt. Tallac Challenge Hike
Saturday August 27, 2011
WHERE: Mt. Tallac is located about 2 hours from Roseville on the west side of Lake Tahoe off Hwy 89. We will travel out Hwy 50 to 89 north to reach the Mt trailhead, which is across from the Lake Tahoe Visitor Center.
WHAT: “Tallac” is a Washoe Indian word meaning “Great Mountain”. The summit is 9,735 feet and the trailhead is approx 6200 feet. The out and back hike is a 9.6 mile round trip. The ascent/descent is steep for large portions of the trip, requiring that hikers be comfortable with high-angle slopes. The views from the top are magnificent!
WHO: This hike is for those who are in good physical condition and have experience hiking for the whole day at a steady pace, making this a 4 boot out of 5 boots on the BAS rating scale. (See website for description).
WHEN: Hike co-leader Ramsey will be meeting you at the Hazel Ave. Park and Ride on Hwy 50 at 6:45 AM. The park and ride is on the east side of Hazel, South of Lake Natoma, North of Hwy 50. (Hike leader, Linda will be camping in Tahoe and will meet up with you at the trailhead). Please be prepared to help out drivers with gas money (A good rule of thumb is $2.50 for each hour of drive time. This trip would be about $10 each rider). There are no bathrooms at trailhead so stop at visitor center if needed before hike.
WHAT TO BRING: Layered clothing that wicks moisture, hiking boots (with good tread as there is some rock scrambling at the top), Hat, Sunscreen, Sunglasses, a light jacket in case of cool wind or potential rain, at least 2 liter containers of water (hydration bladders or Nalgene-type bottles), Food for lunch and snacks and a Camera.
HOW TO REGISTER: Please register online through eventbrite at the following link: http://email@example.com/ (you may need to cut and paste the link into your browser.) Contact co-leader Ramsey Sharif at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions as Linda Commons email@example.com will be out of town until the event.
NOTE: Registration closes on Friday, August 26 at 8:00 PM. You will not be able to register after the above date. Events with no registrations will be canceled. Please print out and bring a signed copy of the Liability Release found on the hiking website and bring with you the morning of the hike. You are also asked to be a member of Bayside Adventure Sports. For information on membership and to sign up go to www.baysideadventuresports.com
