Event description

Description

Join us for a docent-led hike high above east Contra Costa County (not as high as Mount Diablo, though). We will provide a short shuttle - starting at Pittsburg's City Hall to the hike start. The shuttle will take participants up Nortonville Road (closed to the public) to start our hike at a higher elevation on recently conserved land. We will see wildflowers, a number of rare/special status plant populations and stunning views of east county, Mount Diablo and surrounding ranges.

The East Contra Costa County Habitat Conservancy and the East Bay Regional Park District partnered to conserved a number fo properties in this area to expand the Black Diamond Mine Regional Preserve and have been working to document the on-site resources, develop habitat restoration projects, and plan for public access.

This is the first public hike event on this property.

HIKE DETAILS

Distance: Approximately 2.5 miles round trip (we may hike more if the group would like to and time permits).
Difficulty: Easy-Moderate. We will be hiking on a mix of off-trail and ranch road for the hike. There is some, though minimal elevation.
Capacity: This hike is limited to the first 30 participants who register. If you are confirmed to participate, and then are not able to join us, please let the organizer know so we can make your spot available to someone else. Since we are securing shuttles for people, only registered participants may participate.
Who can come: This docent led hike is open to all ages and members of the public. Participants need to be with comfortable with the distance and the condition of the route (as described above). This hike is not open to dogs (or other pets).
What to bring: Bring everything you need to be safe and comfortable. Suggested items to bring include: water, snack, sturdy closed-toe shoes, hiking sticks, sun protection (sunscreen, hat, etc), camera, binoculars (if you are a birder), and anything else you would bring on a hike.

Trip leaders: Heath Bartosh, Senior Botanist, Nomad Ecology
