Event Details

Join Friends of Harbors, Beaches and Parks on this hike in Irvine... this is the final hike in a series of three FREE family-friendly hikes scheduled for 2019.

Join us as we visit this hidden gem--the San Joaquin Marsh. It includes a Pollinators Garden and ponds frequented by shore birds, egrets, pelicans plus dozens of other bird species and numerous species of dragonflies. We’ll see osprey nesting platforms and other nesting boxes, and walk trails that enable us to hear and see birds and other wildlife that dwell in the habitats found here in the midst of Orange County. We’ll learn about the special history of this site, and how urban runoff from the San Diego Creek is diverted and naturally cleaned to help protect the estuary downstream. The marsh encompasses over 300 acres of coastal freshwater wetlands and restored native vegetation. Binoculars are strongly recommended. Visitors can ask questions and shop afterwards at the Audubon House. IRWD Visitors' Center and IRWD Learning Center is also open to the public.
