Event Details

Join Friends of Harbors, Beaches and Parks on this hike in Trabuco Canyon... this is the second (of three) in a series of FREE family-friendly hikes scheduled for 2019.

This is a family-friendly walk in the wilderness of O’Neill Regional Park.  We will follow a trail away from the turf and shade trees in the developed side of the park and enjoy the Arroyo Trabuco wilderness, along the large river bed.  Native uses of common plants by Native Americans will be featured and the importance of the site’s location and connectivity will be discussed, as well as an overview of the area’s recent history. Come join us as we learn about this unique park and discover how easy it can be to escape “right here in the middle of it all.”

Mileage: Roughly 2-3 mile out and back (approximately 2 hours) on a mostly exposed trail (lots of sun exposure means bring a hat/wear sunscreen.)

Level of Difficulty: Easy (and flat)

Age Range: 6 years and up (no strollers allowed)

Maximum Capacity: 50 hikers

Meeting Location: Oak Grove Parking Lot (inside the entrance, near the Interpretive Center)

Parking: Oak Grove Parking Lot

Parking/Entrance Fees: $5 entry fee or OC Parks Annual Pass

Attire: Hat, light jacket, sunscreen, and ample water recommended. Shoes that attach at the toe AND heel required.

Dogs: Dogs are not permitted on trails in the park. Please leave your pets at home.

Weather: The event will be cancelled if there is a red flag day is issued by the National Weather Service or temperatures are above 95 degrees. We may reduce the duration/length of the hike if temperatures are forecasted between 90 and 95 degrees. We are starting this hike in the morning in case of a high heat day. Either way, notifications will be sent out three days in advance if the hike will be cancelled.
