"See the REAL Florida!"
The "wildly" popular Hike Sumter "See the REAL Florida" program begins again October 25th. We will be hiking Baird Unit, which is just south of our Bushnell Office on CR 471. We will meet at the extension office in Bushnell (7620 SR 471) at 8:30 a.m. for registration and parking. Then we will car pool to the hiking location which is about 10-15 minutes from our office.
Our guide, as usual, is UF/IFAS Extension, Sumter County Agent, Jim Davis. We are pleased that Arthur Clothier, Sumter County Forester, will be accompanying us also. You'll be learning about Florida's natural resources including native plants, invasive plants, insects, wildlife, trees, etc. as well as enjoying the great weather and scenery.
Please dress appropriately for hiking: no open-toe shoes, bring sunscreen, insect repellant, and binoculars. Bring your camera so you can “shoot” any wildlife we may encounter. Insect repellant is a must because there are ticks and chiggers in the areas we will hike.
Bring your lunch and beverages in a cooler. Following the hike we’ll have lunch together and have a question and answer session.
The hikes fill up quickly and space is limited; so register right away. This event promises to be educational and a lot of fun; we hope you will join us. If you have any questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 352-793-2728, Ext. 229.
