Event Details

Join Friends of Harbors, Beaches and Parks on this hike in Orange... this is the second (and final) in a series of FREE family-friendly hikes scheduled for 2018.

Join us on a nature hike at the 465-acre Irvine Regional Park, Orange County’s oldest regional park. It is nestled among Heritage Oak and Sycamore trees and surrounded by rolling foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains. Santiago Creek bisects the park. We will hike along Horseshoe Loop dirt trail gaining an elevation of just over 600 feet to reach a spectacular vista point with panoramic views of foothills and valleys before we head back down and cross the dry creekbed.

We will walk past a burn area resulting from the October 2017 Canyon 2 Fire, seeing and discussing the extent of recovery already in progress. Coastal sage scrub and woodland habitat will be explored. Common plants used by Native Americans will be featured and the importance of the site’s location and connectivity will be discussed, as well as an overview of the area’s recent history. Come join us as we learn about the site and discover how easy it can be to escape “right here in the middle of it all.”
