Terry Kelly (Ontario Kelly) and Joe Hay (Caravan Haylan) met in 2000, when Joe was 14 years old. Terry was 25 at the time. Terry recorded Joe’s first project on a 4 track and was instantly taken by his creativity, unique song writing, and lyrics.

In the 5 or so years that followed, Joe, who was mainly a drummer, supported Terry at performances in and around the Trent Hills area. Perhaps their most memorable gig was at one of Todd Kerr’s famous Canada Day parties, where a 6x6 swimming raft was pulled out of the Trent river so that they could have a stage.

They also recorded a lot of music in those years, mostly informally, for fun. Joe appeared on Terry’s “Gibbus self-titled” album, playing drums, harmonica and guitar. The album, released in 2002, was co-produced by Ken Tizzard and charted on campus radio across Canada, reaching #2 at University of Toronto’s CIUT FM radio.

Terry eventually moved to Ottawa to pursue a career in the public service and Joe moved to Peterborough, where he now owns and operates the Amusé Café with his partner, Lindsay Brock.

This year, when Ken Tizzard invited Terry to record an album at Booth Street Records (BSR) in Campbellford Ontario, he invited Joe, and together, with the support of BSR, they have crafted the Highway 7 Project.
