High Tea with Brahms
Event Information
About this event
In 1868 German master composer Johannes Brahms wrote Liebeslieder Waltzes, a collection of love songs scored for piano four hands and four vocal parts. Between the short songs, the singers will read from the poetry on which each of the movements is based, and from letters written between Brahms and Clara Schumann, revealing their own complicated relationship. Sonya Sutton, Music Director at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, and Sophia Vastek are the pianists, along with a quartet of vocal soloists from the DC area. We will offer an authentic setting, since Brahms did not intend these pieces for the concert hall, but rather for an informal musical atmosphere; to that end, we will be serving tea and scones to all attendees at both seatings. Catered by Savoir Fare.
