High Tea with Bette Davis, Legendary Movie Star

A historical portrayal by Leslie Goddard, PhD

Doors open at 12:00 pm, Tea service commences at 1:00 pm

Turning back the time machine: it is 1959 and Bette Davis is joining us to share stories of her life in the movies and the Golden Age of American movies.

Few actresses in Hollywood rivaled her for longevity and appeal. In such classic films as Jezebel, Dark Victory, Now, Voyager, The Letter, and All About Eve, Bette Davis created a new kind of film heroine: strong, outspoken, glamorous, and even wicked. And her personal life was just as tempestuous as her life onscreen.

Leslie Goddard holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University, specializing in U.S. cultural history, American studies, and women's history as well as a master's degree in theater and in museum studies. A former museum director, she is the author of two books: Remembering Marshall Fields and Chicago’s Sweet Candy History. She currently works full time as a historical interpreter, author and public speaker.

Greater Midwest Foodways Alliance

Greater Midwest Foodways Alliance is dedicated to celebrating, exploring and preserving unique food traditions and their cultural contexts in the American Midwest. By hosting public events, developing archival resources and generating publications, the Greater Midwest Foodways Alliance uncovers the distinctiveness of a region that is as varied in tastes and traditions as it is in its geography from the Great Lakes to the Great Plains. Whether indigenous foods like Wisconsin cranberries and Minnesota walleye, iconographic flavors like the wheat and corn from across the prairies, immigrant cuisines from early Europeans to 21st-century newcomers, or fish boils and fine dining in small towns and big cities, the Greater Midwest Foodways Alliance promotes and chronicles the diversity of the regions culinary character.
