Description

It’s our pleasure to invite you to participate in the OMJ W.O.R.K.S. Career Fair.

OhioMeansJobs W.O.R.K.S.
Workforce Opportunities and Readiness Knowledge for Students

This Career Fair is dedicated to helping students make informed decisions about their future career choices, and linking them with employers and schools in our community. This event will conclude the fourteen weeks of career-readiness curriculum we have integrated into the classroom setting to help guide the youth of Windham Junior High and Senior High School toward future career goals.

On Thursday, May 11 from 9:30a.m.-12:30p.m., OhioMeansJobs Portage County will host the Career Fair in the Windham High School Gym. The first group will consist of students from visiting nearby schools: James A. Garfield and Crestwood High Schools beginning at 9:30. The Windham students will rotate through the Career Fair, by grades, during their lunch periods beginning around 10:30.

This fair will focus on:

  1. Local employment opportunities and future career paths for students. We would like for you to speak to our students about your company's possible career paths and answer any questions they may have. Live demonstrations are always a hit!
  2. Businesses interested in hiring our local youth. Area businesses that are currently hiring full-time, part-time and seasonal employees, are invited to participate.
  3. This provides an excellent opportunity to connect with students to discuss or interview for current and/or future career-related employment and co-op/internship opportunities!

Based on student interest, these are the targeted Industries and Groups for the Career Fair:

In order to promote engagement in the Career Fair, each student will be given a “Passport” and asked to have the passport stamped by an employer from each employment sector or education provider. Students earn their stamps by asking appropriate questions in regards to the career and education readiness knowledge they’ve learned over the 14 weeks of curriculum. Appropriate questions would be: “I am interested in becoming a teacher, what kind of education would I need?”, “What could I expect in a typical work day if I was an electrician?”, “What are your likes/dislikes working in the healthcare field?” When the Passport is completed and all sectors have been stamped, the students will place them in a box where they will have the opportunity to be drawn for a door prize.

Additionally, we are accepting donations to be given as door prizes for those students who complete their Passports. Please let us know if you are interested in donating by Monday, May 1, 2017.

    This includes a complimentary lunch.

Thank you for taking an interest in helping to prepare our future workforce. We look forward to seeing you in May!

    Sincerely,

    The OMJ W.O.R.K.S. Team
