Curriculum:
Breaststroke Technique

These sessions are designed for swimmers of all ages and abilitites to improve their knowledge of better breaststroke technique and the variations within breaststroke so that you can find YOUR best stroke.

Breaststroke: Breaststroke is the most challenging stroke to master. The techique in breaststroke requires an efficient pull, a powerful kick, proper timing, and an aggressive attack forward each stroke. Katie Meili will help each participant understand what perfect form feels like and she will also teach them drills and exercises to practice these skills.

  • Pull: Finding the perfect breaststroke pull means learning how to find the balance between increasing power while reducing drag. You want to keep your pull strong and accelerate through the process. Keeping your arms in front of your body might feel odd at first, but once you try Katie's tips for a better pull, you'll be amazed at how fast you go!

  • Kick: Most of the propulsion in breaststroke comes from a strong kick. The hardest part of a good breaststroke kick is the flexibility involved. Katie has one of the strongest kicks on the planet and she will help all swimmers set their feet in the most efficient position so that you can jump off the water!

  • Timing: The WHEN of when each part of breaststroke happens is not intuitive. It must be done very intentionally to be done correctly. Learn from a breaststroke gold medalist what it takes to maximize the effectiveness of your stroke!

IM Transitions *(12 & Over Session Only)*: In this clinic the older session will also learn the intricacies of how to get in and out of the flags faster than ever in your back to breast turn (also called the crossover turn). It may require toughness, coordination, and focus but it will pay off! Katie will talk you through what she thinks about to be one of the fastest swimmers in the world in IM and at the turn!

ASK QUESTIONS: Swimmers and parents are invited to ask Katie questions during a Q&A session. Gain insight into her training regimens, diet and nutrition, and recovery tactics.

WATCH THE CLINICIANS: Observe Katie swim at full speed and demonstrate a progression of perfectly executed drills to achieve powerful, efficient and fast swimming.

GET UP AND RACE: Race one of the best swimmers in the world and watch her near-flawless technique - achieved by practicing the same drills she will teach you.

Take a photo while wearing Katie's medals, get autographs, and all participants will reviece a special gift from TYR Sport!!
