Event description

Description

Barnard students are invited to travel to the High Line for a unique off-campus leadership lab and networking opportunity. The excursion includes a tour of the High Line and a conversation with Gail Beltrone, Chief Operating Officer at the High Line (Barnard's former Vice President for Campus Services), two Barnard alumnae working in different areas of the operation: Melanie Kress '08, Associate Curator, High Line Art and Anne Hippee '15, Planning & Design Coordinator, High Line as they discuss their roles and leadership experiences.

Participants are expected to listen actively and ask questions, practice networking skills during the trip, and fill out a brief survey after the excursion.

Registration is first come, first served. There are 20 spots for this lab; registration confirms a commitment to attend. If you become unable to attend for any reason, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer your spot to someone on the waitlist. No shows will not be eligible to attend any Leadership Labs the following semester (Fall 2019).

The trip is FREE and open to ALL students, except each student is responsible for subway fare. Departure meeting location will be sent in the confirmation email. Athena Staff Victoria Gordon and Erika Guzman will lead the trip.

ABOUT THE HIGH LINE

The High Line is a nonprofit organization that oversees the public programming, public art, maintenance, and operations for the park in New York City, raising nearly 100% of its annual budget. The High Line was founded by neighborhood residents in 1999 to prevent the elevated rail track on Manhattan's west side from being emolished. Working closely with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, the High Line has transformed into a public space where every New Yorker and visitor is welcome and can experience the intersection of nature, art, and design. The High Line also facilitates a national learning community for leaders of similar projects.
