These 3-hour workshops will model strategies that teachers can use to incorporate social studies content-area texts, concepts, and vocabulary into literacy adult and ABE level lessons. Engaging literacy and lower level learners using a close reading lays the groundwork for all later learning. Approaches for engaging students in basic note-taking processes and academic conversation will be emphasised. These workshops are appropriate for teachers and tutors of Adult Literacy and Pre-HSE (levels 1 through 4). Each session will be unique while addressing the same range of instructional content for different levels.
