INTRODUCING THE TRUST FUND FOR VICTIMS (TFV):

A LUNCHEON AND STRATEGIC DISCUSSION AT THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ON HOW SUPPORT FOR THE TFV CAN BE INTEGRATED INTO A CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY STRATEGY

To express support for the Trust Fund for Victims (TFV) and help it achieve its mandate, the European Parliamentary Group of Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA), chaired by Ms. Ana Maria Gomes, MEP, kindly invites you, along with other members of the corporate, business, and philanthropic communities, to join members of the European Parliament and leadership of the TFV for a luncheon and strategic discussion on the future of the Trust Fund.

The Trust Fund for Victims is the first of its kind in the global movement to end impunity for the gravest of crimes and alleviate suffering. At the end of one of the bloodiest centuries in human history, the international community made a commitment to end impunity, help prevent the gravest crimes known to humanity and bring justice to victims with the adoption of the Rome Statute that established the International Criminal Court (ICC). In July 2002, the Trust Fund for Victims was born with the purpose of providing assistance to individuals and communities who have suffered from the crimes under the ICC jurisdiction- genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

As a leading network of more than 1400 Parliamentarians from 142 countries dedicated to human rights and Rule of Law, PGA is deeply committed to the pursuit of international justice and protecting victims` rights. Through its ICC Campaign, PGA mobilizes Parliamentarians across the world to strengthen the mandate of the TFV to effectively implement one of the core objectives of the ICC mandate- to provide justice to victims.

We realize that in addition to the human toll, the economic impact of violence is felt across generations. In post-conflict environments, economic prosperity and growth can only be achieved by granting victims access to justice and the possibility to return to a dignified and contributory life within their communities. The TFV contributes to the realization of sustainable and long-lasting peace, economic well-being, and community resilience through the promotion of restorative justice and reconciliation.

Thanks to the support of public and private donors, as well as fines and forfeitures, the TFV, through the provision of physical, psychological, and material support, has directly provided assistance to more than 104,000 individuals affected by atrocities, while more than 350,000 families and community members benefitted from its activities indirectly.

In view of the demanding year ahead, the TFV aims to expand its assistance programme from two to six countries. The contributions of individuals, organizations, and state parties is integral to fulfilling this mission and ensuring that victim survivors may lead a dignified life and envision a better future.

This event’s timing coincides with a renewed focus on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by the European Parliament and initiative to more closely align EU policies with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The event will provide an opportunity to exercise CSR in the most meaningful way by providing help to victims of mass atrocity crimes.

We would be honoured if you were available to attend the important Strategic Meeting to acquaint yourself with the achievements of TFV and consider how your company can support TFV in providing justice to victims and to achieve long-lasting peace.
