AWS reliability has improved to the point that many customers do not proactively architect for rare AWS outages. But outages do occur. In this meet-up, we'll provide an overview of the AWS Global Infrastructure, and discuss the recent outage in the AWS Sydney region and how some customers avoided any downtime, while others were completely down.

Brian has 25 years’ experience helping businesses become more effective with technology, including eight years at Microsoft in the mid 1990s, seven years at MySQL as a start up and as a part of Oracle, and several years as a dotcom entrepreneur. Brian has an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Washington Foster School of Business and a Bachelor of Science from Butler University. He holds several technical certifications from Amazon Web Services, MySQL (Oracle), and Microsoft and was the recipient of the 2004 University of Washington Foster School of Business Technology Management MBA Alumni Entrepreneurship Award.
