Event description

Description

Using collage and paint, inks, fabrics, threads and found objects, along with words, we create an assemblage of metaphors that in turn give shape and meaning to our lives.

Working with altered books allows us to choose, edit, cut and give form to our histories whilst supporting the healing process, and helps us discover alternative narratives.

When we re-author a pre-existing book it symbolises the reciprocal process of re-authoring our own lives.

In this workshop we:

  • Use the existing framework of a narrative to rewrite challenges and change outcomes.

  • Contemplate the book as a metaphor for how our lives are altered by experience.

  • Examine our own texts (composed of culture, experience, and nature) and author a personal healing story.

  • Use a wide variety of media to add richness and depth to a meaningful metaphor.

Whilst we provide as many different materials as possible, if there is a book (or embellishment) that you feel reflects your personal story, please bring that along.
