Hawaii Information Communication Association presents “How to keep our IT professionals in HI?

Please join the HICTA in welcoming Scott Murakami, Director of Workforce Development for University of Hawaii Community Colleges for a discussion on how they are finding ways to reduce the severe shortage of IT professionals in HI.

Scott Murakami serves as the Director of Workforce Development for the Office of the Vice President for Community Colleges at the University of Hawaii. He has held a variety of leadership positions in higher education at public, private and non-profit institutions including the Director of the Pacific Center for Advanced Technology Training (PCATT), Provost and CEO at the Hawaii Technology Institute, and Vice-President of Academic Affairs at Hawaii Business College.

Murakami currently serves the state of Hawaii as a member of the State of Hawaii Workforce Development Council, chairing the Data Management and Technology Committee and is a member of the Council’s Executive Committee. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Economic Development Alliance of Hawaii as well as the State Rehabilitation Council which expands employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Murakami is active with the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii serving on the Workforce Development and Education Committee and the Manufacturing in Hawaii Group. He has previously served on the Oahu Workforce Investment Board and the Association of Information Technology Professionals’ Hawaii Chapter.

Nationally, Murakami has served on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Community Colleges, chaired the 2012 Committee on Program Initiatives and Workforce Training and was a member of the Board’s Executive Committee. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the National Coalition of Advanced Technology Centers and served as the Coalition’s 2010 President. Murakami has also served on the Board of Directors for the National Asian and Pacific Island Council.

Scott is a graduate of Kaimuki High School, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Sociology, a Master of Business Administration in Finance and a Master of Accounting from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
