Event description

Description

Join our Social Action Committee for an evening of thought-provoking discussion with representatives from HIAS connecting the plight of contemporary refugees to Jewish values and history.

Due to a series of conflicts including the Syrian civil war, more than 65 million people have fled their homes. The number of displaced persons in the world exceeds even post-World War II numbers. In the wake of this widespread devastation, Jewish communities must unite to become powerful agents for social and political change.

As the director of education for HIAS, one of the oldest resettlement organizations in the United States, Rabbi Jennifer Grant Meyer has been instrumental in calling synagogues and Jewish community centers to action. She will be joined by Ahed Festuk, a Syrian activist from Aleppo seeking asylum in the United States.
