Description

Objective:

1) Identify youths at risk for suicide & depression.

2) Discuss ways to listen and communicate effectively to help those with suicidal thoughts.

3) Describe community resources for early suicide intervention.

This seminar will offer valuable information and resources on youth bullying, depression and suicide to teachers, school staff, coaches, youth leaders, parents, and students. A psychologist, psychiatrist and pediatric emergency medicine physician will help participants gain practical knowledge of how to identify individuals who are having thoughts of suicide, engage them in conversation and connect them with resources that can help in early intervention. The consequences and management of bullying will also be discussed. Role playing scenarios will help participants gain helpful insights into what to do in situations where the subject of suicide may arise. Helpful written information on community resources will be given to participants.
